Three senior officials of the Shenzhen City Government in south China's Guangdong Province convicted on charges of corruption were sentenced to prison today by the city's Intermediate People's Court. Zhu Wenhui, former secretary of the Futian District Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), accepted bribes of over 300,000 yuan and costly furniture. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Peng Hu, former chairman of the Standing Committee of Nanshan District People's Congress, was convicted of receiving bribes of 200,000 yuan and 420,000 Hong Kong dollars. He confessed to the crime and was sentenced to eight years in prison. Wei Zhenxiong, a former financial official of the Nanshan District government, was charged with taking a bribe of 330,000 Hong Kong dollars. He was given a light sentence of seven years because he returned all of the ill-gotten money. |
