Chinese Children Each Need to Spend 55,000 Yuan in Education

According to a recent sample survey conducted by National Bureau of Statistics, among the 170,000 urban families surveyed, 54 percent of children in urban families go to school or kindergarten, they spend 1,208 yuan in education per semester, it will cost a family 55,000 yuan to bring up a child from kindergarten to college graduation in 20 years.

Informed sources say that a college student will pay 4,838 yuan per school term; a junior college student 3,971 yuan; a technical secondary school student 2,657 yuan; and amount of 1441 yuan and 801 yuan will be spent for senior and junior high school students each respectively, 548 yuan and 758 yuan for each primary school student and each kindergarten child.

According to current consumption level, a kindergarten child needs to pay 6064 yuan for four years; an amount of 6576 yuan is needed for six-year primary school students each, 4806 yuan for a three-year junior high school student, 8684 yuan for a three-year senior high school student, 29028 yuan for a four-year college student, these sums of money put together total 55,000 yuan in 20 years, these expenses exclude living cost.
