International Dragon Dance Contest in Hainan

An international dragon dance contest and Chinese dragon cultural festival will be held in the city of Dongfang of Hainan Island from April 6-12. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2000 is the year of dragon. Dongfang is a major port and industrial city in the southwestern part of Hainan Province. The contest will be hosted by the Hainan Provincial Government, the State General Administration of Sport and other organizations.

A number of activities will be held during the festival, including flying dragon-shaped kites, dragon and lion dance contests, and seminars on Chinese culture. Fourteen dragon dancing teams from the China's mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and countries in southeast Asia, Europe and the United States will compete at the Dragon Dance Contest.
