Chinese Prosecutors to Take Off Military-Style Uniform

Chinese prosecutors will take off their dark green military-style uniforms and put on dark western suits in a move to polish their public image, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) Monday.

The uniform of 2000, much discussed among legal professionals, is now appearing in some cities, the SPP said. The dress code change is intended to remove the military implications for prosecutors. In addition, caps, shoulder straps and collar decorations were abandoned. The new uniform -- a dark suit with a badge -- is in line with international practices in reflecting the authority of the office, the SPP said.
