CPPCC National Committee Reviews 1999 Work

The National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Chinese government's advisory body, called a standing committee meeting in Beijing Monday to review its work in 1999.

He Guangyuan, chairman of the Subcommittee for Handling Proposals of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a report to the eighth session of the Standing Committee of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee.

He said more than 3,300 proposals were submitted by non-Communist parties, mass organizations and CPPCC National Committee members from all walks of life in the past year, about 96 percent of which have been handled.

Chairmen of other subcommittees also reported on the CPPCC National Committee members' investigation and study in the fields of state enterprise reform, strategic adjustment of the structure of the public sector of the economy, environmental protection and sustainable development, poverty alleviation, education in poor areas, and the current situation of Taiwanese-funded firms.
