700-Year-Old City Site Unearthed in North China

The site of the nearly 700-year-old Zhongdu city, or Central Capital, was recently unearthed in Shijiazhuang, north China, after two years of excavations.

The construction of Zhongdu began in 1307 of the Yuan Dynasty and was completed four years later.

Experts believe that the cultural relics discovered in the city represent characteristics of both the Han and Mongolian ethnic cultures.

Research at the site will help scholars learn more about the Yuan Dynasty, which was founded by the Mongolian ethnic group.
