China's women's team stormed into the semifinals of the 45th World Team Table Tennis championships being held at the Putra Stadium Kuala Lumpur Wednesday. The Chinese team beat Hong Kong, China, ranked fifth in the world, with a 3-0 whitewash in the quarterfinals. World number one Wang Nan gave China the first point with a 21-17, 21-14 victory over Song Ah Sim. Li Ju beat Wong Ching 21-9, 21-10 before Zhang Yining delivered China's winning point by beating Kwok Fong Fong 12-21, 21-10, 21-12. China, the defending champion will take on South Korea, ranked fourth in the world, in the semifinals Thursday. South Korea defeated Japan 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Chinese Taipei pulled the biggest upset in the quarterfinals by beating the previous championship's second runners-up, Germany 3-1. Chinese Taipei, ranked 18th, will face Romania who eliminated Singapore 3-1 in another quarterfinals. |
