One China Principle, Prerequisite and Foundation of Peaceful Reunification

Talks were held on Thursday by the central committees of all democratic parties and All China Association of Industry and Commerce on the White Paper "One China Principle and Taiwan Issue". Participants at the meeting all expressed their full approval of, and resolute support for, the stand of One China Principle and all policies for solving Taiwan issue advocated by the Chinese Government.

Zhou Tienong, Standing Vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang pointed out that one China principle is the prerequisite and cornerstone advocated by the Chinese Government over the Taiwan Issue. Under this principle any problem in this regard can be brought onto the table for discussion and the final aim is to realize the complete reunification of the motherland. The Chinese territory and sovereignty will in no way be allowed to be separated.

Speaking of the wishes shared by the people across the straits and overseas Chinese and Chinese expatriates, Wu Xiuping, Vice-chairman of the Central Committee of China Democratic League said: to realize the complete reunification of the motherland is the common wish cherished by the Chinese descendants, sons and daughters of the Chinese people the world over. All patriotic compatriots, perspicacious personages expressed their support for the stand of One China Principle and all policies for solving Taiwan issue advocated by the Chinese government, and did a lot of work for promoting the peaceful reunification of China.

In the speech by Chen Mingde, Secretary general of the Central Committee of China Democratic National Construction Association he said: during the past few years when the intercourse and exchanges between the people across the Taiwan Straits were increasing and warming up the separatist forces on Taiwan Island represented by Lee Teng-hui and his lot began to swell up in an attempt to deteriorate the relations on both sides of the Straits. To go against One China Principle means being unable to realize the peaceful reunification of China and to push the people in Taiwan into a deep chasm.

So far, Taiwan Authority has made no proper response in regard with the 8-point proposal by Chairman Jiang Zemin on the Taiwan Issue, said Chu Zhuang, Vice-chairman of the Central Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy. On the contrary Lee Teng-hui was hawking around his so-called "Independence of Taiwan", "Two-China fallacy" in a vain attempt to sever China by means of "Amendment of the Constitutions" and "Legislation", etc. The doing is an out-and-out treachery of the Chinese nation.

Li Meng, Vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party expressed his view like this: We resolutely oppose the so-called "referendum" through which the Taiwan Authority attempts to change the status of Taiwan as part of China. If the Taiwan Authority refuses limitlessly to settle the problem of peaceful unification of the two sides of the straits through negotiations the Peasants and Workers Democratic Party support for the necessary measures, which the Chinese Government is forced to adopt in safeguarding the state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The other parties such as China Zhi Gong (Public Interest) Party, the Jiu San (September 3) Society and the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League and All China Association of Industry and Commerce all expressed the same view because One China Principle is the common wish shared by the Chinese people across the straits. It is a fact nobody will be able to alter.

Presided over the meeting today was Zhang Kehui, Vice-chairman of the National Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, and attended at the meeting were over 50 responsible persons from the democratic parties mentioned above and All China Association of Industry and Commerce.
