Seminars in Macao Emphasize One-China Principle

The Association of Returned Overseas Chinese in Macao and the Association of Chinese Students of Macao respectively held seminars on Thursday to emphasize the one-China principle concerning the Taiwan issue.

The participants said the one-China principle is the foundation for and prerequisite to achieving the peaceful reunification of the country as well as the fundamental principle for settling the Taiwan issue.

To safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China and promote the reunification of the motherland are the common aspiration of all Chinese. The Taiwan authorities should bear in mind the teachings of Sun Yat-sen and contribute to the unity and prosperity of the country, rather than act as people condemned by history, the speakers noted.

They said Hong Kong and Macao have returned to the motherland and set good examples for settling the Taiwan question on the basis of the one-China principle. The Taiwan authorities should return to the one-China stance as soon as possible and any attempt to separate Taiwan can only bring about war and disaster to the Taiwan people, they warned.

The participants noted that the one-China principle of the Chinese government is serious and reasonable and has won understanding and support from more countries and international organizations.

The Taiwan compatriots should not be influenced by the small number of separatists, but should get united with the others of the Chinese nation to build a stronger country, they said.
