Tibet Regional Leader Dies

Gyipu Puncogcedain, Vice-chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Government, died of heart disease on Monday in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province. He was 70 years old.

He was born in December 1930 in Bainang County of Tibet. During his life, he had served as deputy head of Xigaze Special Prefecture, deputy director of the general office of the Regional People's Commission and vice-chairman of the Regional People's Political Consultative Conference. Gyipu was the regional people's government vice-chairman since 1983.

Leading regional officials from the Party Committee and government visited Gyipu while he was in hospital.
