A consensus of the two is that the Taiwan authority should in no way put its lot on the US peg and that the US should by itself move away from meddling in China's internal affairs. Xiong Jie said that the "One China Policy and the Taiwan Problem" white paper obviously clarifies China's firm resolve to solve its Taiwan problem. China will certainly not refrain from using its force to reunify the motherland when the Taiwan authority should persistently reject or delay endlessly peaceful talk proposed by the mainland. As to the so-called Taiwan Security Enhancement Act recently passed at the US House of Representatives, Xiong said it has really led some people on a wrong track as it gives the false impression that the US would help Taiwan when should war break out on the Taiwan Straits. He makes it clear that the impression is most dangerous and that the Enhancement Act will certainly mean harm to the Taiwan people since it contains nothing substantial or of practicality. According to Zhu Yongde, the White Paper represents China's policy on Taiwan to its friends and people who are hostile to the country abroad. It will not only be of great importance in accelerating China's reunification it can also be regarded as a grave warning to the US. Zhu adds that the current international situation is favorable for China to realize its reunification cause. As facts are shown by the Kosovo war and incessant disputes in Middle East and Africa the US, serving as a ferocious world cop being bruised and battered, has already been in a terrible fix. What is more, as China is not Kosovo or Yugoslav the US has to take care and act with prudence. Printer-friendly Version In This SectionBack to top |
