Jointly sponsored by China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and Yunnan Provincial Government "China Kunming International Tourism Festival"(CKITF) is scheduled to be held in Kunming from April 10 to May 10, 2000.

Yunnan is a province reputed as "a land south of rosy clouds and a source of greenness" with magnificent landscape and beautiful scenery. High mountains clad in snow all year round, densely and luxuriantly growing virgin forest, deep and precipitous valleys, and the Stone Forests and caves of Karst formation, a topographical feature of dissolved limestone, all this makes Yunnan province a museum of grotesque wonders wrought by nature. Yunnan is also a province with the most numerous nationalities of ethnic people in China. All nationalities have respectively created distinctive features of their own, colorful and varied national cultures and arts, which combined with the natural landscape, constitute rich resources for the development of tourism industry in Yunnan.

The organizing committee for CKITF will conduct activities of various forms featuring rich historic and cultural characteristics of the ethnic people in Yunnan, such as the " Grand Gathering of Nationals" held in Yunnan National Village by the side of Lake Dianchi, the second session of China Kunming International Art Festival, China Minority Costumes & Adornments Fair, and Water-splashing Festival of the Tai Ethnics and Sino-Burmese Water Splashing Carnival as well.
