Beijing Anzhen Hospital Sets Asian Record in Lung Transplantation

Ji Shuchun, a farmer in Anyang, Henan Province, having undergone a lung transplantation operation, has well spent his 5th birthday now, thus setting a record of the longest survival period for lung transplantation in Asia. This shows the hospital has reached the international advanced level in big organ transplantation.

Five years ago, Ji Shuchun suffered a lot from suffocating asthma and needed lung transplantation to relieve it. Feb 23, 1995 the Anzhen Hospital operated for him and achieved a great success. At present Ji Shuchun recovers quite well and is able to look after himself now.

The lung transplantation as informed is a relevantly difficult job of all large-organ transplantation operations for the lungs is the only organ that functions as inhaling and exhaling, and so it is easy to get infected after operation. In 1983, the first case of lung transplantation was successfully done in the world, and Taiwan initiated one-leaf of lung transplantation in 1991, but the patient survived only for half a year. In 1995, the Anzhen Hospital succeeded in an operation of one-side lung transplantation, and in January,1998, the hospital conducted a two-side lung transplantation operation on a patient who suffered primary pulmonary arterial hypertension and now the patient is still alive.
