Beijing, First Choice of Overseas Chinese Student Entrepreneurs Back in China

A survey showed that over 80% of Chinese overseas students wish to return to work, start an undertaking or go on business in China and that a 60% of them hope to develop in Beijing.

The research report compiled by China Zhi Gong Dang and Beijing Science and Technology Committee (BSTC), entitled "Absorbing Overseas Chinese Students to Come to Beijing to Establish Hi-tech Enterprises", showed that over 30 million have gone for advanced study abroad since 1978. Among them are included 20% that have gone from Beijing, with one third who have returned, taking the first place in China. The survey on overseas Chinese students going on study pursuits in US indicates that 81% of them are ready to return to work in China. These include a 50% motivated by a sense of responsibility to make contributions to the motherland, 45% drawn by ties of kith and kin, and 23% accustomed to a home life in China. It is reported that over 60 thousand overseas Chinese students out of 200,000 scientific technical personnel are under employment in Silicon Valley. Many outstanding Chinese talents have already attracted the attention of governments of resident countries as the US, Japan, Canada, and Australia, hence a great scramble to enlist the service of these overseas Chinese. It goes without saying to attract overseas Chinese students back home to work or start business in Beijing has come to make an important task for BSTC this year. As is reported, part of the effort is that a talent pool of overseas Chinese students has been planned by BSTC; assistance is to be solicited from the democratic parties to absorb as many overseas Chinese students as possible to return home and work in China and the capital, Beijing.
