'99China and World Top 10 Netnews Appraisal Result

China Internet Competition Organizing Committee invited some experts and scholars in the news circles to select through appraisal top 10 Chinese Netnews and top 10 world Netnews of 1999 based on secret ballot after conscientious discussion. The results are:

 1999 Top 10 Chinese Netnews

  1. China Telecom and some ministries and commissions' information centers jointly launched a government online project.

  2. Telecom was regrouped, Unicom was reorganized, China Netcom was established.

  3. There was a sharp increase in the number of Chinese netizens, exceeding 8.9 million at the end of 1999.

  4. China.com successfully listed in the United States.

  5. China and the United States signed a bilateral agreement on China's entry into the WTO, allowing foreign fund to enter China ICP.

  6. Online fee was lowered twice.

  7. IP phone was in trial operation.

  8. Universities enroll students online for the first time.

  9. Six Beijing writers won a lawsuit over an online piratical case.

  10. The selling of 163 Post Office by Feihua Company has aroused dispute

1999 Top 10 World Netnews

  1. Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com, selected an influential man of the weekly, Times.

  2. The number of Internet users increased to 2 million

  3. There were nearly 100 cases related to Telecom network companies' amalgamation and purchase.

  4. There was a surge in the social status of network stock, with Nasdaq soaring to 4000 points.

  5. Internet domain name registration broke monopoly.

  6. IBM withdrew from the network equipment manufacturing industry.

  7. World telecom exhibition became an Internet show.

  8. Melissa and CIH virus invaded Internet

  9. Dow Jones added Internet index

  10. Fortune chose the wealthiest men, most of them take Internet as their occupation.
