Thursday, February 24, 2000, updated at 16:53(GMT+8) China WTO Deal: Hot Topic to China's Two Top-level SessionsChina signed a "win-win" deal with the US last November. This has removed the biggest obstacle on the way of China's entry into the WTO. With the advent of the new millenium, China has stepped up its talk on the country's entry into the WTO with EU and other countries. Evidence shows that China will join WTO this year. China's entry into WTO is estimated to be a hot topic at the NPC (National People's Congress) and CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) 3rd sessions scheduled in March. Such issues as advantages and disadvantages, preparations and amendments of laws, rules and policies in connection with China's entry into WTO will demand special concern from delegates at the two sessions. China's entry into WTO will bring no prosperity overnight to the nation but it will exert definite impacts on the country's economy and some of its industrial branches. Under these circumstances, special concern will be given by the two sessions as to necessary measures that will have to be adopted to cope with challenges going to be met by China after becoming a member of WTO. In addition, to legislatively guarantee implementation of WTO rules, important discussions with regard to efforts for replenishment, adjustment and perfection of foreign-related economic laws, rules and regulations will be held by delegates at the two sessions.
