Chinese Film Got Silver Bear Prize in Berlin

China's Zhang Yimou won a Silver Bear for directing "Wo De Fu Qin Mu Qin" ("The Road Home")", a poetic fable about the process of change in China at the awards ceremony of the 50th Berlin Film Festival February 20.

Zhang paid tribute to Gong Li, who has featured in many of his movies and now chaired a nine-member jury of international cinema industry representatives, and also praised the city of Berlin, where he was previously honored for his film "Red Sorghum" 12 years ago.

"Berlin is a city I will always hold dear in my memory," Zhang told the awards ceremony.

It is the second time that the Chinese film won the Silver Bear Award. In 1989 at the 39th Balinese the Chinese film "The Evening Bell" won the Silver Bear Award for the first time. In

1988 and in 1993 two Chinese films "The Red Sorghum Field" with Zhang Yimou as the register and Gong Li as the leading lady and "A Keeperess of a Sesame Oil Workshop" with Siqin Gaowa as the

leading lady the Golden Bear Award separately.

Golden Bear: "Magnolia" by Paul Thomas Anderson(U.S.)

Silver Bear, Jury Grand Prize: "The Road Home" (My Father and My Mother) by Zhang Yimou (The People's Republic of China)

Silver Bear for Best Direction: Milos Foreman for"Man on the Moon" (U.S.)

Silver Bear for Best Actress: Bibiana Beglau and Nadja Uhl for their roles in "Die Stille Nach Dem Schuss" (Rita's Legends) by Volker Schloendorff

Silver Bear for Best Actor: Denzel Washington for "The Hurricane" by Norman Jewison (U.S.)

Silver Bear Jury Exceptional Achievement: "The Million Dollar Hotel" by Wim Wenders (Germany)

The Blue Angel Award for Best European film: Volker Schloendorff for "Die Stille Nach Dem Schuss" (The Quiet After the Shooting) (Germany)

Silver Bear for Individual Achievement: "Paradiso"by Rudolf Thome (Germany)

Alfred Bauer Award for First film: "Boy's Choir"(Dokuritsu Shonen Gasshoudan) by Akira Ogata (Japan)

Golden Bear for Best Short Film: "Hommage a Alfred Lepetit" by Jean Rousselor (France)

Silver Bear for Best short Film: "Media" by Pavel Koutsky (Czech Republic)

Wolfgang Staudte Award: "Marsal" (The Ghost Of Marshal Tito) by Vinko Nresan (Croatia)

Ecumenical Church Award: "The Road Home" (My Father and My Mother) by Zhang Yimou (The People's Republic of China)

International Film Critics Award: "La Chambre Des Magiciennes" by Claude Miller (France)

Children"s Film Award: "Man Van Staal" by Vincent Bal (Belgium) and "Tsatsiki, Morsan Och Polisen" by Ella Lemhagen (Sweden/Norway/Denmark)

German Art Cinema Owners Award: "The Hurricane" by Norman Jewison (U.S.)

International Art Cinema Owners Award: "Saltwater"by Conor McPherson (Ireland)

Peace Award: "Long Night's Journey Into Day" by Frances Reid and Deborah Hoffmann (U.S.)

Caligari Award: "The Spring Gathering" by Dimos'Avdeliodis (Greece)
