Russia has lodged a "decisive protest" with Germany over its reception of Chechen envoy Ilyas Akhmadov, the Interfax news agency reported on February 17. The protest came after German commissioner for human rights and humanitarian issues met with Akhmadov, who described himself as the foreign minister of the breakaway republic. The Germans also organized "a special press conference was organized for him," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "The warm reception given in Germany to the Chechen envoys can only be qualified as interference in Russia's internal affairs and assistance to the separatists and terrorists," the ministry said in a statement. |
