China will initiate some major reforms in its prosecution system this year to ensure justice and the independent rights of prosecutors.. Zhang Qiong, deputy procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, told a press conference Thursday that the six major reforms will be implemented over a three year period. The reforms include: reforming prosecution procedures and making further efforts to improve the supervision of prosecutors; making chief prosecutors responsible for individual cases; instituting an expert consultation system. Zhang said that prosecution offices nationwide should support and coordinate with one another in their work. Measures should be taken to improve the supervision of procurators and other judicial departments. Such reforms will have far-reaching effects on the justice system in China, Zhang said. |
