Chinese Spend More and Differently on Weddings

Chinese people are spending more on their weddings than before and they are spending differently, according to a recent survey.

The survey found that more than 60 percent of the 414 interviewees said they could spend as much as 20,000 yuan (about 2, 400 U.S. dollars) to 50,000 yuan on wedding expenses.

And who is expected to food the bill? Twenty-one percent said wedding expenses will be paid by their parents, according to the survey conducted by the China Economic Climate Monitoring Center in Beijing and Wuhan.

Most of the spending goes for purchasing furniture, home appliances and apartment decorations. An emerging item is the wedding dress photo session that is increasingly popular among young couples. About 19.8 percent of females interviewed said they want to wear a traditional Western wedding dress during the commemorative shoot.

On the other hand, a big wedding meal, a traditionally important part of a wedding ceremony, is losing popularity among young couples.
