Recently, EU issued a resolution that China is listed as one of those countries allowed to export their aquatics to EU. That means this product of China will be allowed to enter the markets of the 15 EU countries. At the same time, the resolution canceled the stipulation issued in 1997 that each batch of Chinese aquatic products be checked. This indicates that Chinese aquatics entering the EU market need not delay passing the customs and be compelled to accept inspection, expending extra storage and microorganism inspection fee. This breakthrough has not only enhanced China's competitiveness in EU and the world market, promoted the export of more aquatics and the earning of more foreign exchange, it has also helped EU understand the law-enforcement level of Chinese competent departments and the situation regarding China's economic development, and proceed to create conditions for solving problems related to the export of poultry, meat and other animal products to EU. Sources say that aquatic export to EU involves several hundred enterprises in 18 coastal Chinese provinces and cities, whose export volume in the first half of 1999 came to 618,000 tons valued at US$1.45 billion. |
