China's Trade with Top Ten Partners

The latest statistics of China's foreign trade with its top ten trade partners in 1999:

The statistics has been provided by the General Administration of Customs:

--Sino-Japanese trade volume last year grew 14.2 percent to 66. 167 billion U.S. dollars,

among which China's exports reached 32. 399 billion U.S. dollars, up 9.2 percent, and imports

shot up 19.4 percent, to 33.768 billion U.S. dollars.

--Trade volume with the United States hit 61.426 billion U.S. dollars in 1999, up 12 percent

from that of 1998. China's exports rose 10.5 percent, to 41.946 billion U.S. dollars, and

imports from the U.S. saw a 15.4 percent increase to 19.480 billion U.S. dollars.

--Trade with the European Union went up 13.9 percent to 55.676 billion U.S. dollars, of which

export value was 30.211 billion U.S. dollars, up 7.3 percent, and imports surged 22.7 percent

to 25. 465 billion U.S. dollars.

--The mainland's trade with Hong Kong declined 3.6 percent to 43.783 billion U.S. dollars,

including 36.891 billion dollars of exports to Hong Kong, down 4.8 percent, and 6.892 billion

U.S. dollars of imports, which grew 3.5 percent over those of the previous year.

--China's trade volume with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) saw a 14.9

percent increase, to 27.042 billion U.S. dollars. Exports from the ASEAN went up 11.1

percent to 12.170 billion dollars, while imports jumped 18.2 percent, to 14.871 billion U.S.

dollars.

--China's total volume of trade in 1999 with the Republic of Korea (ROK) reached 25.036

billion U.S. dollars, up 17.7 percent. Exports to ROK jumped 24.9 percent to 7.808 billion

U.S. dollars, while imports went up 14.7 percent to 17.228 billion U.S. dollars.

--The mainland's trade with Taiwan were 23.479 billion U.S. dollars, up 14.5 percent, of which

exports rose 2.1 percent to 3. 950 billion U.S. dollars, and imports hit 19.528 billion U.S.

dollars, up 17.4 percent.

--Sino-German trade volume reached 16.114 billion U.S. dollars, up 12.1 percent. China's

exports to Germany rose 5.8 percent to 7. 778 billion U.S. dollars, while imports were 8.336

billion U.S. dollars, up 18.7 percent.

--Trade volume with Singapore saw a 4.7 percent increase in 1999, to 8.563 billion U.S.

dollars, among which China's exports increased 14.2 percent to 4.502 billion dollars, and

imports fell 4.1 percent to 4.061 billion U.S. dollars.

--Trade volume with the United Kingdom reached 7.874 billion U. S. dollars, up 19.6 percent

from 1998. Exports to U.K. grew 5.3 percent to 4.879 billion, and imports increased 53.4

percent to 2. 995 billion U.S. dollars.
