China cannot accept the Philippines attempt to "distort facts and blur the distinction between right and wrong" by claiming its sovereignty over a Chinese island, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao told a regular press conference in Beijing on February 1.

The Philippine side recently disregarded China's sovereignty over Huangyan Island and randomly interfered in the normal fishing operation of Chinese seamen. "Their moves even developed to forcefully boarding Chinese ships for checkups and robbing them of their property," Zhu told the press.

Certain Filipino senior officials also made irresponsible comments, claiming the Chinese ships infringed upon the so-called sovereignty of the Philippines, he said.

In response to such acts, Zhu said that China's Foreign Ministry has sent two notes to the Philippine embassy in China, in which the Chinese expressed deep concern over recent affairs and lodged protests over the illegal acts taken by the Philippines, according the spokesman.

Zhu reiterated that Huangyan Island is an integral part of the Chinese territory. "It is a fact universally acknowledged by the international community," he stated.

"The Philippines have no sovereignty or any sovereign rights over Huangyan Island and its surrounding water," he stressed, adding that the country has also "no administrative right" over the water.

The Chinese side urged the Philippine side to respect the sovereignty of China and the basic norms of the international laws,observe the understanding and consensus already reached by both sides, and stop any illegal acts that encroach on China's sovereignty, he said.

They should not create any new disturbances in the region, he warned.
