Police in China's largest city of Shanghai are going to be armed with high-tech facilities in their fight against crime, including a computerized automatic fingerprint recognition system and DNA data system. The Shanghai-based "Wenhui Daily" reported on January 31 that work on the two systems has started together with the computerized bullet automatic recognition system and the crime spot investigation information system. Data involving 450,000 people will be input into the fingerprint system, which is expected to be operational from early August this year, while the input work on convicted criminals' DNA information will begin later this year, the paper said. The feasibility study on the bullet recognition system is also expected to begin in the first half of this year, it said. |
