South China Hosts Lantern Show

The Sixth International Dinosaur Lantern Show opened on January 28 in Zigong, a city in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

There are more than 66 huge lanterns, 3,800 handicraft lanterns and 2,000 red lanterns on display. The Lantern Show will be open until March 19.

More than 40,000 Chinese and foreigners attended the opening ceremony.

The history of the Lantern Show can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). The Lantern Show is one of the most famous Chinese folk festivals in China along with the Kite Festival held in Weifang in east China's Shandong Province.
