Any activity that may damage the natural beauty of one scenic spot in northwest China's Yunnan Province will be banned, and illegal buildings around the area demolished in line with a recent provincial government decision.

This move constitutes part of the local government's effort to protect the natural wonder formed by the three rivers of Jinsha, Lancang and Nujiang in the northwestern area of Yunnan.

The three rivers, which originate on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,run parallel for 300 kilometers in the northwestern prefectures ofLijiang, Diqing and Nujiang in Yunnan Province.

This vivid, spectacular sight was first discovered by an official with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1985 with the use of a satellites canner.

It has since attracted worldwide attention, and now efforts are underway to have the site listed on the World Heritage list.

According to local authorities, no new development zones or resort facilities will be allowed at the scenic spot, and the land around the region will forbidden to be leased.

Moreover, in order to the protect local ecological resources, the number of tourists to the region will be strictly controlled.
