Israel to Send Experts to US for Peace Talks

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak decided on Friday to send Israeli experts to Washington to report to the US Administration about Israel's reactions to the US-drafted working document on the Syrian-Israeli peace talks.

However, Barak has not decided on the makeup of the Israeli expert team which is expected to arrive in Washington next week, the Prime Minister's Office said.

The "working document" was prepared by the US during the second round of Israeli-Syrian peace talks held earlier this month at Shepherds town, West Virginia, the United States.

The document outlined the differences between the Israeli and Syrian sides on all key issues that have been discussed during the talks and suggestions by the US for their settlement.

The key issues include borders, water, security arrangements and normalization of ties between Israel and Syria.

Israel and Syria postponed their third round of peace talks indefinitely which were scheduled for Wednesday in the US.

To push peace talks on the Syrian-Israeli track forward, the U.S. has decided to ask the two countries to send experts to Washington to report their comments and reactions to the document and discuss the new date for the next round of talks. (Xinhua)
