Shanghai Makes Science Serve Agriculture

Researchers from nearly 100 scientific institutes in Shanghai met with farmers today to demonstrate the latest scientific achievements to help control pollution, increase output and bring in more income in the rural areas.

New technologies to control air pollution caused by burning stalks, and the water pollution created by fertilizers and pesticides have been introduced to the farmers in the rural areas of the city.

Also shown to the farmers was a new feeding system for pigs designed to shorten the feeding period and increase pigs' weight. If the system becomes commonly used, 700 million yuan more income will be brought in annually, the experts said.

Feng Kunfan, manager of the Shanghai Yulei Environment and Biology Technology Company, said that they will develop more technologies for farmers and improve the environment in the countryside. (Xinhua)
