Shenzhen's Industrial Output Value Exceeds 200 Billion Yuan

Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, one of China's first special economic zones, reported an industrial output value of 200 billion yuan (24.1 US dollars) last year, according to local sources.

The latest figures offered by the city government show that Shenzhen's industrial output value in 1999 was 207.8 billion yuan, up 25.1 percent over a year earlier.

In 1999, the output value of the electronic information sector reached 112.83 billion yuan, 60 percent of the province's total.

As one of the country's top industrial cities, Shenzhen has experienced a prosperous era of economic development over the past decade, ranking high among China's more prosperous cities.

A close neighbor of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was one of the first cities in the country to open to the outside world, and has since developed a superior high-tech industry, with many of its enterprises export-oriented. (Xinhua)
