College Students Encouraged to Contribute to High-Tech Development

Chinese college students can help push forward China's high-tech development by taking an active part in promoting the industry, the president of China's prestigious Qinghua University said in Beijing on January 18.

Professor Wang Dazhong, who is also an academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), made the remark during a ceremony to award the winners in the Challenge Cup, which honors students' creative and entrepreneurial spirit.

He praised all the entries in the Challenge Cup competition, and said the Chinese government's policies will help to stimulate students' enthusiasm for technology innovation and invention.

The contest, co-sponsored by the Chinese Communist Youth League's (CCYL) Central Committee, the All-China Student's Federation, and the China Association for Science and Technology, is designed to encourage students to combine creative and business strengths, with the ultimate goal of helping establish high-tech enterprises.

About 416 works from over 160 colleges were entered in the competition, with ten works receiving gold medals.
