China's Largest Polycrystalline Silicon Line Opens

The first line producing polycrystalline silicon in China recently passed state technical assessment in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The production line, installed at the Emei Semiconductor Plant, is expected to turn out more than 100 tons of polycrystalline silicon annually, accounting for nearly half of the output in the country.

Polycrystalline silicon is an essential material used in the electronic information industry. The world's annual combined output of polycrystalline silicon is 20,000 tons, and most factories with an annual production capacity of more than 1,000 tons are in the United States, Japan, and Germany.

This new line in Sichuan will alleviate China's dependence on imports, according to one factory official.
