China Sets Guidelines for Telecom Services

The Ministry of Information Industry (MII) issued a set of "Guidelines for Telecom Services" and set up a Complaints Service Center on January 18.

Zhang Chunjiang, director of MII's Telecom Department, said the guidelines are an "effective way to improve the quality of telecom services and help protect the interests of customers."

Telecom operators in China have greatly improved services in recent years, but still fail in many respects to meet the demands of its customers.

The guidelines, which will take effect from July 1, stipulate that telecom operators should provide detailed list of long-distant calls, mobile phones and information services for customers, and protect the rights and privacy of its customers. New services will also be introduced connecting telecom services with the Internet.

The MII will launch regular inspection checks on telecom operators. (Xinhua)
