The construction of a large liquefied gas storehouse was completed January 18 in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province.

The storehouse is capable of storing 200,000 ton of liquefied gas a year and providing gas to 1.6 million households a month, according to local officials.

The storehouse will help reduce pollution by dust and sulfur dioxide from coal burning, as most urban citizens are now able to use gas instead of coal, the officials said.

The storehouse was established by the Guiyang Liquefied Gas Company of the Tianjin American Group at a cost of 270 million yuan (32.5 million US dollars).

The company also set up smaller storehouses and distribution outlets in all cities and towns in the province to ensure a quick and immediate gas supply for every households.

The environment of Guizhou, one of the major coal producers in China, has been damaged for years by coal burning, and the local government has worked hard to improve the situation, the officials said.
