China to Enlarge College Enrollment Quota

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has completed a comprehensive plan for the year 2000 college enrollment, which says that over 30 percent of the national college entrance examinees will enter colleges this year.

An official from the MOE disclosed that the plan is in line with the demand for college graduates.

He noted that colleges should nurture more high-level personnel for the central and western areas, and to that end the MOE has increased the college enrollment quota for the economically less-developed areas in the country's western and central parts.

The MOE has taken efforts to enroll more college students from the country's western and central regions, and it will strengthen cooperation among the regional higher education resources to help stimulate regional economic development.
