Glamorous fireworks will light up Hong Kong's Victoria Harbor night on February 6, a government official said in HK on January 17. Announcing details of the 2000 Lunar New Year fireworks display at a press conference in HK on January 17, Assistant Director (Performing Arts) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department Chung Ling-hoi said, "The department, newly established in 2000, aims to organize various large-scale entertainment programs during the traditional festivals for the enjoyment of the public." Fireworks is one of the most important celebrating activities for the Chinese during their Lunar New Year. Chung added that his department was honored to coordinate the various government departments and relevant parties to organize the "Chevalier 2000 Lunar New Year Fireworks Display." A total of 20,000 pieces of fireworks will be discharged in a display which will last for 23 minutes and be divided into eight acts. Accompanied with Chinese and Western music, the display will be an impressive light and sound spectacular. The show will be broadcast live on television so that members of the public can enjoy the show either on site or at home. |
