A contracted confrontation drill was launched recently between the light combat ship formation composed of escort vessels, hunter-killers and missile speedboats organized by the Donghai (East China) Sea Fleet Speedboat Detachment and the corvette formation in a certain high sea area 250 nautical miles away from the shore.

According to a report of the Army Daily, in the drill, the escort boat formation launched missile attacks under complicated conditions; the hunter-killer formation conducted search and attack on submarines; the corvette and the escort boat, and the missile boat and the hunter-killer caught and fought at close quarter with each other, stirring up surging waves. The recent drill marks a major breakthrough in the small ship's sea mobile operational capacity of this detachment and sets a precedent for the first drill conducted by a light ship formation in a high sea area.
