Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, flew in from London, where he met British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon and John Spellar, minister of state for the Armed Forces.

Following his arrival at the airport, Chi said his Russia visit is intended to strengthen understanding, cement trust, develop friendship and enhance cooperation, and to advance the continued and sound development of friendly cooperation between the two states and especially the two armed forces.

While in Moscow, Chi is expected to meet his Russian counterpart, Igor Sergeyev, and other senior Russian officials.

Russia is the second leg of Chi's four-state official good-will tour. He is also scheduled to visit the Republic of Korea and Mongolia.
