Sino-Namibian Relationship to Be Further Developed

Sino-Namibian relationship will surely be further developed, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan has said in Windhoek on January 13.

During an hour-long talk with Namibian Acting Foreign MinisterTuliameni Kolomoh in Windhoek late Wednesday, Tang said the bilateral relations have enjoyed a good momentum of development by frequent exchange of high-level visits and friendly cooperation invarious fields since the two countries established diplomatic ties in March, 1990.

At the important juncture of the turn of the century, stepping up the China-Namibia exchange, contacts and cooperation conforms to the common aspiration of the two countries and the two peoples, and serves the interests of friendship and cooperation between China and African countries, Tang stressed.

The Chinese minister also thanked the Namibian government for its firm support to China's "One Country, Two Systems" policy, noting that the return of Macau to the motherland will speed up the glorious cause of China' s peaceful reunification.

Kolomoh highly praised the Chinese government's strong suppor tto Namibia during the independence struggle led by the Southwest African People's Organization (SWA he common view with China, Namibia insists that all regional and international disputes should be resolved through peaceful means, Kolomoh said.

As a member of the United Nations, Namibia will cooperate with China on all issues concerned, devoting itself to the world peace, stability and development.

Kolomoh also emphasized that his government will stick to "One China" policy, reaffirming that Taiwan is an integral part which can not be separated from China.

After the meeting, Tang and Kolomoh signed an agreement on establishing political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, ensuring that the high-level officials of thetwo countries will hold regular meetings on common concerned issues.

Tang also signed with Namibian Finance Minister Nangol Mbumba a document of providing Namibia with an economic aid worth two million RMB (about 250,000 US dollars).

The Chinese foreign minister arrived here on Wednesday afternoon for a two-day visit to the southern African country. He is scheduled to leave for Harare, Zimbabwe, on Thursday afternoon to continue his five-African- nation tour.
