China's Auction Market Booming

China's auction market has been growing at a steady clip, reporting 20 billion yuan (2.4 billion U.S. dollars) in sales last year.

At present there are about 1,000 auction houses scattered across China, employing nearly 20,000 people.

Goods put up for auction have varied from the confiscated items sold in the early days of the auction craze to a wide range of property, including real estate and technology.

Internet auctions are also attracting the attention of the Chinese.

China initiated its auction law on January 1, 1997. The business has become popular in most cities. (Xinhua)
