The Chinese government has published a national regulation on administration of medical equipment in a bid to ensure safety of medical service. The Regulation on the Administration and Supervision of MedicalEquipment, which was published by the State Council today, goes into effect as of April 1 this year. The State Drug Administration and affiliated departments at local levels are authorized to take charge of supervisory work, which mainly includes classifying the equipment and clinical trials, and deciding if the equipment should be made or imported. Under the new rule, the drug administrations will issue permission certificates to producers and sellers of medical apparatus, which would be the prerequisite for getting a business license.
