Spring Festival Celebration to be Broadcast Live over the Internet

China Central Television's (CCTV) broadcast of the first Spring Festival evening party of the new millenium will be televised live on the Internet. China Central Television and Beijing Information Harbor will be working together to broadcast the event live over the Internet. Starting January 7, 2000, the CCTV website and Beijing Information Harbor website will simultaneously put their Spring Festival special on their websites.

All visitors of the site will have a chance to win prizes and one lucky contestant will win a trip to watch the Spring Festival festivities.

This will be the second time the Spring Festival event will be broadcast live over the Internet.

Last year, the first time the Spring Festival celebration was broadcast live over the Internet, the website received 130,000 hits, 80% of which came from outside China. This year, the broadband width has been expanded to 20 million bits per second, which can accommodate 800 to 1,000 simultaneous visitors.
