Heilongjiang to Build Wild Animals Rescue Center

Forestry department of Heilongjiang Province in northeast China has applied to the State Forestry Administration for setting up a wild animals rescue center in a bid to protect endangered wild animals.

The aim of the center is to rescue and protect wild animals and give medical treatment to wild animals that are injured or suffer diseases, said Cui Guangfan, division chief of the wild animals management section with the provincial forestry department. Heilongjiang now has 470 kinds of wild animals. Of the country's 20 existing wild Siberian tigers, 10 are in Heilongjiang.

The center which will cover an area of 734 hectares will be located at the Binxi forestry farm not far away from the provincial capital, Harbin.

Thus far, China has 14 such centers throughout the country.
