China Calls for Training More Young Cadres

Zeng Qinghong, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, urged on January 9 that great importance be given to selecting and training more young cadres in order to ensure the Party's future and the country's long-term political stability.

Zeng Qinghong told a national conference of Party organization department chiefs that further efforts should be madeto enhance the sense of responsibility and the sense of urgency inselecting and training young cadres.

Young cadres should be added to leading groups which now have few young cadres, said Zeng who is also an alternate member of thePolitical Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Inter-regional cadre transfer should be considered, and outstanding people may be promoted, he said.

At the same time, the Party will improve its supervision system for selecting, training, using and administrating cadres, and for fighting corruption in this regard, he stressed.

Zeng said that currently the Party is supporting high profile campaign to develop western China by dispatching talented cadres to the region. Organizational departments should provide talented people for the country's effort to invigorating the nation through science, technology and education and for its modernization drive, he added.

He also called on Chinese studying abroad to return and work inthe motherland.

Zeng said that building of the Party's grass-roots units in State-owned enterprises and rural areas must be strengthened.

Officials will continue to be nominated by the Party, and a market-oriented mechanism is expected to be introduced for employing managers, according to the official.

He urged Party officials to arm themselves with Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, and Deng Xiaoping Theory, as well as modern knowledge, so they can perform their professional duties well while leading a plain style of life.
