Facts & Figures: China's Foreign Trade With Major Partners in Jan-Nov

Following are the latest facts and figures about China's foreign trade in the first eleven months of 1999, provided by the General Administration of Customs:

-- China witnessed a total foreign trade volume of 322.995 billion US dollars in the 11 months, an increase of 12.7 percent from the same period of 1998.

-- Exports grew 6.6 percent to 174.697 billion US dollars.

-- Imports increased 20.9 percent to 148.298 billion US dollars.

-- Sino-Japanese trade volume reached 58.823 billion US dollars, up 15.6 percent from a year earlier. Exports increased by 9.8 percent to 28.843 billion US dollars while imports went up 21.8 percent to 29.980 billion US dollars.

-- Mainland's Trade volume with Hong Kong totaled 39.297 billion US dollars, down 5 percent. Exports decreased 6.4 percent to 33.114 billion US dollars while imports up 3.6 percent to 6.183 billion US dollars.

-- Trade volume with the Republic of Korea was 22.194 billion U. S. dollars, up 18.2 percent. Exports increased 24.8 percent to 6. 858 billion US dollars and imports rose 15.5 percent to 15.336 billion US dollars.

-- Sino-German trade volume reached 14.522 billion US dollars, up 16.3 percent from that of 1998. Exports increased 7.7 percent to 6.944 billion US dollars while imports jumped 25.5 percent to 7.578 billion US dollars;

-- Trade volume with the United Kingdom increased 22.4 percent to 7.054 billion US dollars. Exports went up 7 percent to 4.377 billion US dollars while imports surged 59.9 percent to 2.678 billion US dollars;

-- The Sino-French trade volume totaled 6.050 billion US dollars, up 27 percent from the 1998 figure. Exports grew 4.5 percent to 2.594 billion US dollars while imports soared 51.4 percent to 3.455 billion US dollars.

-- Sino-US trade volume amounted to 55.549 billion U.S. dollars, up 14.9 percent from a year earlier. Exports rose 12.5 percent to 38.022 billion US dollars while imports grew 20.4 percent to 17.527 billion US dollars;

-- Sino-Canadian trade volume grew 12.5 percent to 4.235 billion US dollars. Exports went up 16 percent to 2.184 billion US dollars and imports rose 9 percent to 2.051 billion U.S. dollars;

-- Sino-Australian trade volume reached 5.621 billion US dollars, up 27.3 percent. Exports rose 17.4 percent to 2.453 billion US dollars while imports jumped 36.3 percent to 3.167 billion US dollars.

-- Trade volume with Brazil reached 1.677 billion US dollars, down 15.4 percent from the same period of 1998. Exports decreased 17.5 percent to 790.237 million US dollars while imports down 13. 3 percent to 887.147 million US dollars;

-- Trade volume with Chile totaled 1.167 billion US dollars, up 22.2 percent. Exports declined 3.1 percent to 546.682 million U. S. dollars while imports grew 58.7 percent to 619.903 million US dollars;

-- Trade volume with Panama amounted to 905.426 million US dollars, down 5.9 percent. Exports decreased 5.9 percent to 904. 357 million US dollars while imports declined 10.3 percent to 1. 069 million US dollars.

-- China's trade volume with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) reached 24.173 billion US dollars, up 16. percent from the same period of 1998. Exports went up 12.9 percent to 10.843 billion US dollars while imports increase 20.4 percent to 13.330 billion US dollars;

-- China's trade volume with the European Union (EU) increased 18 percent to 49.934 billion US dollars. Exports went up 8.5 percent to 26.939 billion US dollars while imports soared 31.5 percent to 22.995 billion US dollars;

-- China's trade volume with the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) grew 12.2 percent to 242.589 billion US dollars. Exports increased 6.5 percent to 128.515 billion dollars while imports increased 19.4 percent to 114.074 billion dollars. (Xinhua)
