Elephants Cause Trouble for Villagers in Zambia

Elephants are source of concern in some parts of Zambia, making farmers fearful of going to the fields, Times of Zambia newspaper reported Tuesday.

The worst hit areas include Ialanda in Itezhi-Tezhi district, Southern Province, where villagers are now being forced to stay indoors early as 6: 00 p.m., the report said.

The villagers are worried that if the situation is not promptly addressed, they risk starving themselves as there would be no production in the area due to the threats posed by elephants.

The increased number of elephants has been attributed to the rampant poaching in the Kaoma area which is forcing the animals to flee in large numbers towards Itezhi-Tezhi district, the report said.
