Banks in Macao Free from Y2K Bug

The computer systems in Macao banks have proved to be free from the millennium bug problem, according to sources with the Macao Monetary and Foreign Exchange Authority (MFEA).

On December 31, a special team under MFEA had maintained close contact with special teams of the banks to be alert on emergent situation.

As it ticked to zero hour of January 1, MFEA received no report of computer problem from local banks. Up to January 3, the first working day of the new year, computers systems of the banks went on smoothly.

However, sources with MFEA warned that banks should not relax now, as February 29 this year might be another trouble day.
