China's Stock Markets Up Without Y2K Glitch

China's stock markets closed its first trading session of the new millennium on January 4 without any glitches caused by the Y2K bug.

The Composite Stock Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchanges finished at 1,406.37 points today, up 39.79 points from the previous session.

The Component Stock Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed at 3,497.06 points January 4, up 127.44 points.

The two exchanges recorded a total turnover of over 11 billion yuan for the day.
