Telephone Among Events Affecting Mostly World Developments

Most Greeks believe that telephone is one of the events that affected most the world developments in the past 1,000 years, according to the result of a public opinion poll released Sunday.

The poll was conducted by the Greek polling company "Metron Analysis" on a sample of 1,191 people, the Macedonian Press Agency (MPA) reported.

On the events that affected most the developments in the past 1, 000 years at a world level, 62.5 percent Greeks referred to the invention of the telephone, the women's right vote 55 percent, World War II 52.6 percent, World War I 47.8 percent, the invention of the car 46.8 percent, man's landing on the surface of the moon 45.9 percent, the discovery of America by Colombo 43.4 percent, the invention of television 41.4 percent, the airplane 38.7 percent, the computer 38.4 percent, the theory of relativity by Einstein 35.2 percent and others.

The scientists who affected developments mostly are Albert Einstein 31. 9 percent, Flemming and his penicillin 8.5 percent, Ciuri 6.6 percent, followed by Isaac Newton 6.2 percent, Pasteur, Guttenberg and Edisson.

Meanwhile, most of those who responded to the opinion poll see the future with optimism and 40.2 percent believe that things will be better in the start of the century. (Xinhua)
