First Macao Tourists at Gongbei Customs Checkpoint in 2000

On the first day of the year 2000, the first 10 tourists from Macao were presented with bunches of fresh flowers when they arrived at the Gongbei Customs Checkpoint of Zhuhai in south China' s Guangdong Province.

Customs officials at the checkpoint also presented a certificate to the very first Macao tourist of the new millennium.

Since Macao's return to the motherland on December 20, 1999, the number of passenger arrivals and departures at the Gongbei Customs Checkpoint has reached more than 100,000 people each day.

The volume will continue to climb as many residents from Macao visit relatives in areas such as neighboring Guangdong Province during the New Year holidays.
