China to Issue Coins Celebrating New Millennium

The People's Bank of China will issue a set of gold and silver coins in January 2000 to celebrate the new millennium. The set of seven includes four gold and three silver coins, which will be distributed exclusively by China Gold Coin Incorporated.

The seven coins all have the same designs, with the front featuring the Centennial Altar being built in Beijing, nine dragons, "millennium commemoration" in Chinese characters, the name of the People's Republic of China, and the year 2000; and the obverse side featuring a human eye, the globe, and the face value of the coin.

What's special about this issue is that the set will include 20 each weighing 10 kilograms. It is said to be the heaviest gold coin in the world.
